Here we are taking a look at the different kinds of trays available on the market so that you can make the right decision, in selecting the right shower tray for your enclosure.
The most common kind of shower tray seen on today’s market is called stone resin. These trays are made from crushed stone that’s mixed with a resin based glue and then poured into a mould. Once set, the tray is sprayed with a gel coating. There are plenty of size and shape options available, meaning that you’re more likely to get the style that you desire. One down side of stone resin trays is that they can be heavy, meaning that they’ll need a solid floor to stand on.
Acrylic trays are lighter than stone resin trays, meaning they’re perfect for flimsier floors and easier to fit and to lift to perform maintenance on pipes. Acrylic trays have a reputation for being weak and easily cracked, however new advances in technology along with new regulations about how the material is made means that modern acrylic trays are actually very strong indeed. Again, you will have a wide range of size and shape options. Apart from this, the steel shower trays from Kaldewei are strong, durable and stylish. Steel Shower Trays are stain resistant and last longer than acrylic trays.

The newest form of shower tray available on the market is called acrylic capped, and this is a combination of the two above materials. An acrylic capped tray will be stone resin inside with an acrylic coating outside. This means that you get the strength of stone resin with the smooth, easy to maintain finish of an acrylic tray. Many acrylic capped trays are slim line models, meaning that they only stand around four centimetres off the floor.
As well as a choice of material, you will also be presented with various size and shape options. The size of your shower tray will be determined by the size of your shower enclosure (if you have one) and how you decide to use the space in your bathroom.
Whilst commonly shower trays are square or rectangular in shape, there are other options. A half circle shape is a good choice for a shower that will stand in the middle of a wall, whilst a quadrant may be a good choice for a corner shower in a smaller room. Again, the shape of your shower tray will be determined by your floor plan for your new bathroom as well as the style of shower enclosure you opt for.
